Badlands Trip - Cancelled
June 15-23, 2013

Because we didn’t have enough people who could go, the Badlands Trip had to be cancelled.

June Canoe Outing
June 21-23, 2013

The Canoe Trip is still on! Save the Date! To be allowed to canoe you must be at least a Class B (Beginner) swimmer.

Watch at Troop Meetings for the Permission Slip.

May Bike Outing
May 18-19, 2013

PERMISSION SLIPS MUST BE TURNED IN AT THE MAY 14 TROOP MEETING!

Arrive at ETC at 7:30 AM Saturday, May 18. We will leave promptly at 8 AM. We will return around noon on Sunday, May 19.

Cost: $25/ person

Everyone who is biking must have their own bike and helmet. If you haven’t gotten a blue card for the Cycling Merit Badge, there’s still time. Ms. Liz is a merit badge counselor!

Summer Camp
July 7-13, 2013

Scouts must start signing up for merit badges with Mr. Danner! Class will fill FAST as camp is full! Forms are available at troop meetings.

NOTE: Snorkeling at Summer Camp is not a merit badge, it is a scouting award.

ADULTS: 1st Aid & CPR certifications are not being offered at camp this year.

St. John Neumann Festival
June 1-2, 2013

As service to our Charter Organization, the troop will once again be running the Flush Tank at the St. John Neumann Festival. All scouts are encouraged to take a shift. This does count as service hours.

Sign up at the troop meetings.

Also: we will be running a Teen Tent. Appropriate music can be brought to play (but the adults have the right to veto songs they deem inappropriate).

NYLT
June 16 - 22, 2013

The Troop Committee voted to offer one (1) full campership to NYLT. To get the campership, a scout must be First Class or higher (no exceptions), aged 13 or older, and must also attend Troop 4’s summer camp. There is an application and an interview required as part of the selection process.

There is still time to get your application in... But spots in the NYLT course are almost gone.

August Court of Honor
August 25, 2013

Mark your calendars! Our next Court of Honor -- where we recognize the advancement the scouts have earned -- is August 25, 2013. There will be LOTS of merit badges earned since this is the Post-Summer Camp Court of Honor.

Families are encouraged to come! Bring grandma and grandpa, siblings, aunts and uncles. When we get closer, an invitation with RSVP will be sent.

A Note About Merit Badges & Blue Cards

As a reminder, it is a scouts responsibility to sign up for merit badges. This includes finding clinics or calling merit badge counselors and taking out and getting blue cards signed.

Occasionally the troop will announce merit badge opportunities or facilitate registration, but it is still the scouts responsibility to see that he has done the pre-requirements, has all the materials for the clinic, and taken out a blue card.

May’s Quiz

  1. What does the menacing-looking deep-sea vampire squid do when startled?
