Fall Fundraiser - Commissions

The money the boys’ earned has been put into their scout accounts. Any money that was owed to the troop was adjusted off the commissions.

To see your current balance, check the Scout Account Balance off the Forms page of the website.

2014 Calendar

As a reminder, the Troop Calendar for 2014 is up on the web and available at troop meetings. Please check the calendar as you start to plan for vacations in 2014... You don’t want to miss an exciting outing!

Thanks to all the parents who attended the announcement meeting last month. We’ve got every outing with an adult coordinator!

Please sign up early and often! The boys picked these outings and the Troop leaders have been saddened that there seems to have been little participation in 2013. A lot of the early advancement also requires participations in outings. Without these outings, there is only “SC” and that’s boring -- put the Outing back in Scouting!

January Outing
January 24-26, 2014

This is another cabin outing. Hopefully there will be snow to play in -- but there will be snow on the ski hills! Combined with this is skiing/tubing.

Watch for permission slips coming to a troop meeting or in your email.

BSA regulations require helmets for all skiing/tubing/sledding activities. You will be able to rent one or bring your own.

Summer Camp
July 6-11, 2014

No, it’s not too early to be thinking about Summer Camp. Now is the time to sign up and pay to get the lowest price of the season!

Sign Up and Pay by the February 25, 2014 troop meeting and camp is only $280. (If you sign up by April 22nd, the cost is $305. After April 22nd, the cost goes up to $330. Webelos that crossover and sign up by June 1st receive the $280 price.)

If you attended NYLT -- and the troop will have at least one campership to send a scout to NYLT -- the cost is only $250 until April 22nd.

Permission slips are out and available! Take advantage of the low price and sign up NOW.

Pinewood Derbies
Next One: December 18, 2013

Troop 4 has a history of helping Packs with their pinewood derbies. Our boys work the track and shuttle cars to the Pack’s parents ALL get to see the races. The cub scouts LOVE seeing out guys and knowing one day that might be them. We run several over the spring

Pack 163 is January 17th. 6 pm at Bethesda Elementary.
Montessori School is February 27th. 6 pm at Montessori School on Summit.
Pack 4 - date TBA. This will be at Lowell.
Pack 89 is March 30.

Troop 4 Klondike Day
February 1, 2014

This is the 6th Annual Klondike Day! Troop 4 puts on this winter day in the snow for the Troops and Webelos of Onatah. We need LOTS of help -- both from Scouts and Parents!

All scouts are expected to come. Our boys run the events -- and yes, they get to play too. Planning will start in December for what the events will be. Parents... We need adult supervision and adults to help out in the concession stand.

Sign Ups will be out in January.

A Note about Advancement & Service Hours

If your son does service outside of the troop, we will count it! A note about the dates, amount, a brief description and SIGNED by an adult (parent or leader of the service activity) need to be turned in. We cannot count hours that are just written (or added) to the back of the advancement sheets.

Advancement Requirements: there are only a couple that a parent can sign off on (such as Second Class #10). Otherwise, older scouts will teach and test their skills with a scoutmaster signing off. For First Class #5, a note signed by the person they talked to gets them credit.

A Note About Merit Badges & Blue Cards

As a reminder, it is a scouts responsibility to sign up for merit badges. This includes finding clinics or calling merit badge counselors and taking out and getting blue cards signed.

Occasionally the troop will announce merit badge opportunities or facilitate registration, but it is still the scouts responsibility to see that he has done the pre-requirements, has all the materials for the clinic, and taken out a blue card.
