April Governor Dodge Outing

A fun weekend and the troop’s first tent camping of 2014! We’re going to Governor Dodge State Park for a weekend of fun scout activities.

When: April 25-27... Meet at ETC on 4/25 at 4:30 pm. We’re leaving promptly at 5 pm. Return will be 4/27 around 11 am.
Cost: $25 / person

Money and permission slips are due at the April 15th troop meeting. Everyone going (including adults) must have a current Part A & Part B Health Form.

Health Forms for Summer Camp

National just released an update to the Health Forms. If you have already had your doctor’s appointment and turned in Part C in 2014... You’re ok. For everyone else (which is everyone but one scout), you need to use the new forms. They can be found on the troop website (http://www.pacunits.org/t4/forms.html) or on the grey shelves at troop meetings.

Troop Elections
March 25, 2014

The troop will be holding elections for the senior youth leadership (Senior Patrol Leader & Assistant, Patrol Leaders & Assistants) at the March 25 troop meeting. OA Elections will be held that night also. On March 18, scouts will have the opportunity to give short speeches about why they should be elected.

The SPL, ASPL, PLs and APLs will be required to attend a Troop Leadership Training on April 5th at ETC. All other scouts interested (especially those who want an appointed position) are also welcome to come.

The PLC is expected to arrive at troop meetings at 6:15 pm to go over the night’s schedule. PLC meetings will be the 1st Tuesday of the month -- more information about this will be coming.

Crossovers

It’s time to welcome the new scouts into the troop at Crossover Ceremonies! We need boys to attend to welcome our new scouts! There are three crossovers:

February 13 -- Pack 163
March 20 -- Pack 22
April 9 -- Pack 30

Pinewood Derbies
Next One: March 30, 2014

Troop 4 has a history of helping Packs with their pinewood derbies. Our boys work the track and shuttle cars so the Pack’s parents ALL get to see the races. The cub scouts LOVE seeing our guys and knowing one day that might be them. We run several over the spring

Pack 89 is March 30.
Pack 4 is April. This will be at Lowell.

Baloo Service Opportunity
April 12, 2014

Liz is looking for a few scouts to help out at the Baloo Cub Scout Training on April 12 (at ETC). You’d mostly be tending the Dutch ovens for lunch and helping out with a few sessions. Sign up at the troop meeting -- see Liz with any questions.

A Note about Advancement & Service Hours

If your son does service outside of the troop, we will count it! A note about the dates, amount, a brief description and SIGNED by an adult (parent or leader of the service activity) need to be turned in. We cannot count hours that are just written (or added) to the back of the advancement sheets.

Advancement Requirements: there are only a couple that a parent can sign off on (such as Second Class #10). Otherwise, older scouts will teach and test their skills with a scoutmaster signing off. For First Class #5, a note signed by the person they talked to gets them credit.

A Note About Merit Badges & Blue Cards

As a reminder, it is a scouts responsibility to sign up for merit badges. This includes finding clinics or calling merit badge counselors and taking out and getting blue cards signed.

Occasionally the troop will announce merit badge opportunities or facilitate registration, but it is still the scouts responsibility to see that he has done the pre-requirements, has all the materials for the clinic, and taken out a blue card.

Summer Camp
July 6-11, 2014

Sign Up and Pay by April 22nd, the cost is $305. After April 22nd, the cost goes up to $330. Webelos that crossover and sign up by June 1st receive the $280 price.

If you attended NYLT -- and the troop will have at least one campership to send a scout to NYLT -- the cost is only $250 until April 22nd.

Permission slips are out and available! Take advantage of the low price and sign up NOW. Sign up for Merit Badges are now available. Space in Merit Badges is limited. Sign up as soon as possible.
