Summer Camp 2019
June 23-29, 2019

It’s sign up time for Summer Camp for the summer. It’s a fun week for all.

Crossovers: Your price is $305
Other Scouts: Your price is $315 until April 23.
NYLT Participants: You get to take advantage of the 2nd week price: $255 until April 23.

Permission slips are out! Merit Badge sign up is out also -- remember some have pre-requisites and additional fees associated with them. Some merit badges have limited space so sign up as soon as you know what you want to do.

Troop Spring Elections
April 9, 2019

With Spring Break, we moved the elections from March to April. OA elections are also being held on this night.

It’s time to elect new troop leadership! At this time, we also assign people to the various other positions, such as historian, librarian, scribe, and quarter master. We’ll get your interests the same night as the elections and the new SPL with work with the Scoutmaster to assign these other positions.

Upcoming Outings - Keep An Eye Open for More Information

The FUN in scouting is the outings! We’ve got permission slips out for the outings from now until Summer Camp, but what’s happening after that? Here’s the list... Some of these dates are firm but some are still tentative.

July - Tubing
August - Ren Faire
September - Webelos Jamoree (September 13-15)
October - Devil’s Lake (October 4-6)
          - Webelos Day Outing (October 26)
          - Planning Lock-In (October 26-27)
November - Creep-o-Ree (November 1-3)
December - Eagle Cave (December 7-8)

Having the events is only half the battle... Activities can’t happen without participation -- the Scouts’ and the parents. Save dates on your calendars and keep an eye out for permission slips as things get finalized.

There is still time to support the Troop in the Friends of Scouting campaign for 2019.

Friends of Scouting goes to support the Potowatomi Area Council and the program support that they give to the troop -- such as professional assistance, Camp Long Lake, council-run fundraisers, activities like NovaCon and much more.

NYLT 2019

Want to learn more about leadership? Want to spend a week putting those skills into practice? NYLT is for you! Participants MUST be First Class AND 13. For 2019 only, female Scouts BSA members will be exempt from the First Class requirement.

Registration is now open!

4G Update

We’re just over two months since Troop 4G was chartered. Here’s how things have been going!

We had 2 crossovers this year taking total membership up to 7! The patrol name (Camo) was picked and youth leadership put into place. For March & April the girls are joining the boys on their outings but they’re working on their calendar. They’ve also signed up for Summer Camp the same week as the boys at Camp Long Lake.

Did You Buy Food or Drive for an Outing?

The troop reimburses for food purchases and for driving miles for outings -- it’s budgeted into the cost of the outings. BUT... We need you to turn in receipts or mileage to get the reimbursements.

Receipts* -- all receipts must be turned in within 4 weeks of the outing.

Mileage* -- the troop will reimburse to the scout’s scout account for mileage driven as part of an outing or event.

You are free to turn either mileage or expenses in as charitable donations as part of your taxes, pursuant to tax law, but the troop would like to know you are doing so. These expenses help budget for future outings and missing reimbursement requests makes that difficult.

*For the full policy, please see the Troop 4 Standards available on the troop website.

Got Advancement?

Looking to have requirements signed off? Remember, it’s up to you to seek out a scout First Class or Above to test and sign off on your requirements. Once they’ve dated and initialed your advancement sheet, drop it in the box and it will get recorded in Scoutbook. Not in the box or without the initials of whoever signed it off? It doesn’t get recorded.

What about Merit Badges? Once you decide you want to work on a badge, fill out a Blue Card and take it to Mr. Landquist to sign off. He’ll also help you find merit badge counselors. Having issues contacting a counselor? Let Mr. Landquist know so he can help find another counselor.

April’s Quiz

  1. In an April Fool’s joke, NPR reported that the Postal Service would soon let you keep what -- no matter where you moved?
  2. How do emperor penguins, which don't build nests, locate their mates and chicks after being separated?
  3. What Paris boulevard was nothing but fields until Marie de' Medici decided in 1616 to put up a tree-lined pathway?

March’s Answers: 1) Ice cream. 2) Edward Teach. 3) The rock hyrax, a small, rodent-like mammal.
