May Camp Quad Outing
May 17-19, 2019

We’re camping at Camp Quad in Hartford. Spend a fun weekend outdoors! We’re lining up some fun activities as well... Keep watch!

Cost: $25 / person

Summer Camp Trailer Pack
June 22, 2019

We’re packing the trailer on Saturday -- come with your bag for the week. Find out what items your missing and take home the ones you can’t (or shouldn’t) have.

Remember: Water bottles, field uniform, swim trunks and towel should be packed in a day pack -- not in the stuff you put in the trailer. We can’t guarantee that things will be unpacked and set up before you need those items on Sunday morning.

Summer Camp 2019
June 23-29, 2019

Merit Badge sign up is still available -- remember some have pre-requisites and additional fees associated with them. Some merit badges have limited space so sign up as soon as you know what you want to do.

SJN Clean Up
July 9, 2019

The first troop meeting in July will be our annual grounds clean up at St. John Neumann. Meet at the church at 6:30 pm -- bring a water bottle, yard gloves, and any lawn-care items you would like (note: power tools can only be used by an adult).

This is a service opportunity & gives back to our chartering organization.

July Tubing Outing
July 12-14, 2019

Camp and go tubing on the Wolf River. Families are more than welcome!

Cost: $64 / person (by June 18)

Tubing only option -- you are responsible for transportation and any food you would eat on Saturday -- Saturday July 13: $15 / person (by June 18)

Permission slips are available. Sign up today!

Highway Clean Up

We’ve rescheduled the April clean up to Tuesday, May 28 -- starting at 5 pm. We should be done in time for the troop meeting.

Please note: with the construction, we will only go from Harris Highland to Sunset this year.

August Ren Fair Outing
August 23-25, 2019

Hear ye! Hear ye! ‘Tis time for an exciting adventure in 16th century England! Once again, we’re spending an enjoyable weekend camping and exploring the Bristol Ren Faire. Like always, family is welcome!

Cost: $40 / person 13+ -- $30 / person under 13. (Late fee of $10 for signups received after July 23)

Permission slips are out!

Upcoming Outings - Keep An Eye Open for More Information

The FUN in scouting is the outings! We’ve got permission slips out for the outings from now until Summer Camp, but what’s happening after that? Here’s the list... Some of these dates are firm but some are still tentative.

July - Tubing (July 12-14)
August - Ren Faire (August 23-25)
September - Webelos Jamoree (September 13-15)
October - Devil’s Lake (October 4-6)
- Webelos Day Outing (October 26)
- Planning Lock-In (October 26-27)
November - Creep-o-Ree (November 1-3)
December - Eagle Cave (December 7-8)

Having the events is only half the battle... Activities can’t happen without participation -- the Scouts’ and the parents. Save dates on your calendars and keep an eye out for permission slips as things get finalized.

Did You Buy Food or Drive for an Outing?

The troop reimburses for food purchases and for driving miles for outings -- it’s budgeted into the cost of the outings. BUT... We need you to turn in receipts or mileage to get the reimbursements.

Receipts* -- all receipts must be turned in within 4 weeks of the outing.

Mileage* -- the troop will reimburse to the scout’s scout account for mileage driven as part of an outing or event.

You are free to turn either mileage or expenses in as charitable donations as part of your taxes, pursuant to tax law, but the troop would like to know you are doing so. These expenses help budget for future outings and missing reimbursement requests makes that difficult.

*For the full policy, please see the Troop 4 Standards available on the troop website.

Got Advancement?

Looking to have requirements signed off? Remember, it’s up to you to seek out a scout First Class or Above to test and sign off on your requirements. Once they’ve dated and initialed your advancement sheet, drop it in the box and it will get recorded in Scoutbook. Not in the box or without the initials of whoever signed it off? It doesn’t get recorded.

What about Merit Badges? Once you decide you want to work on a badge, fill out a Blue Card and take it to Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen to sign off. They’ll also help you find merit badge counselors. Having issues contacting a counselor? Let Mr. Landquist know so he can help find another counselor.

May’s Quiz

  1. What president more than dabbled in architecture, designing Virginia’s capitol building among others?
  2. What terrier got frequent-flyer miles with Judy Garland?
  3. What role do Hugh Jackson, Fredric March, and Liam Neeson have in common?

April’s Answers: 1) Your Zip Code. 2) Unique, two-voiced calls. 3) The Champs-Élysées.
