October Day Outing with the Webelos
October 26, 2019

We’re having our annual Day Outing with the Webelos on Saturday, October 26th at Lapham Peak. Start thinking about what activities you might like to do to highlight the fun we have in Troop 4!

Parents: we are looking for a Webelos coordinator to contact all the Packs in the Waukesha area about the outing. We are also looking for several parents to assist with the setup and running of the Day.

4B Planning Lock-In
October 26-27, 2019

We’re running out of calendar! It’s almost time to plan for 2020! Start thinking about what activities and outings you want to do next year. The suggestion box will be out starting at the end of August.

The planning lock-in will be after the Webelos Day Outing and run through the next morning. Parent chaperons are welcome.

4G Planning will happen in December -- watch for the date and time!

Recharter Information

It’s that time of year again, time to charter for 2020!

We’re doing something different this year: your recharter packet will be emailed rather than printed. We’re hoping to get the information out quickly without needing to wait for someone to come to a troop meeting.

Also, you may or may not have heard, BSA National is going to be increasing dues. Unfortunately, we won’t know by how much until October 23rd. Please understand that this entire national dues fee goes to the national organization to develop national level training modules, provide liability insurance, support high adventure bases, etc. and the rate is solely set by the national executive board without our local council’s or units’ input.

This will affect how much the troop will be charging for dues for 2020. Of the current $60 troop dues, $57 is sent to BSA for national dues and Boys’ Life. The committee will be discussing what the change will do to troop dues this month.

All this means, that recharter packets will be slightly delayed and dues will likely have to increase.

Creep-o-Ree
November 1-3, 2019

This year’s theme is Through the Years -- the Roaring 20s, the Fabulous 50s, the Rocking 80s and more! There will be activities all day Saturday followed by a Dance and Movie. This is our last outdoor camping for the year.

Cost: $45 / person by September 24 ($55 / person by October 8 | $65 / person after October 8)

Summit Experience
July 19-25, 2020

At this time, we are in danger of having to cancel this High Adventure outing -- we are lacking both youth and adult participation. If we do not have enough participation by October 22, this will be cancelled!

The Summit Experience (at Summit Bechtel Scout Reservation) is open to all scouts 13 or older by September 1, 2020. And... As long as we have more scouts than adults -- there’s no maximum number of people who can go!

Got Advancement?

Looking to have requirements signed off? Remember, it’s up to you to seek out a scout First Class or Above to test and sign off on your requirements. Once they’ve dated and initialed your advancement sheet, drop it in the box and it will get recorded in Scoutbook. Not in the box or without the initials of whoever signed it off? It doesn’t get recorded.

What about Merit Badges? Once you decide you want to work on a badge, fill out a Blue Card and take it to Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen to sign off. They’ll also help you find merit badge counselors. Having issues contacting a counselor? Let Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen know so he can help find another counselor.

October’s Quiz

  1. What astronaut played golf on the moon in 1971?
  2. A killer whale isn't technically a whale but what?
  3. The Battle of Bull Run, the first major land conflict of the American Civil War, was actually known by what different name in the South?

September’s Answers: 1) ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer).
2) Safari. 3) Moai.
