Scouting for Food Outing
March 13-15, 2020

It’s the first tent camping weekend! 4B & 4G will camp “in the backyard” -- we’ll work on camping and outdoor skills. We’ll be picking up the Scouting for Food bags on Saturday morning. The summer camp swimming pre-test will take place this Saturday as well. Even if you can’t come for the whole weekend, come for Scouting for Food and the Swim Test

If you’re going to Summer Camp -- try to at least make the swimming pre-test.

Cost: $25 / person (+$5 late fee after February 25) for weekend
$8 / person swimming only

*** SWIM TEST *** will be Saturday, March 14 at Waukesha YMCA. If you are not going to the outing, be there at 11:45 AM. We need to be changed and ready pool-side at 12 pm for the swim test.

4G March Cabin Camp
March 20-22, 2020

It’s another fun Long Lake cabin weekend! If the weather cooperates there will be an opportunity to try for skiing or tubing again. We’re also working on getting access to the shooting range for some Troop Shoot practice.

Permission Slips are available.

4G Shooting Practice

Also bring your own 12 gauge shotgun or .22 riffle; ear & eye protection. Note: 12-gauge requires scout to be 110 lbs.

Troop Shoot

4B & 4G will be participating in Troop Shoot! Enjoy a fun weekend shooting rifle, shotgun, and archery. Competitions will be divided by age groups for scouts 12 and up. Trophies will be given through 3rd place.

Too young to shoot? This is an opportunity to camp with the troop before Summer Camp and work on your outdoor and scout skills.

Pinewood Derbies

Thanks to all the scouts that helped with this year’s Pinewood Derbies! They’re a great way to get Troop 4 out and about! We’ve received many thanks from the Packs for doing this service for them.

If you’d like to help out, there’s also the All-Council Pinewood Derby on April 4. See Mr. Danner if you’d like to help with set-up (April 3) or take down (April 4).

Medical Form Update

At the beginning of the year, National came out with an updated Class A/B/C medical forms. The new forms are available linked on the troop website.

Previously turned in medical forms (dated prior to 1/1/20) will still be valid until their expiration date (the end of the month 1 year after the date they were signed) but any new forms need to be on the updated form.

As we head into Summer Camp and you are getting your physicals, please download the new forms to take with you to be signed.

Summer Camp 2020
June 21-27, 2020

4B & 4G will be at Camp Long Lake the week of June 21-28, 2020. Permission slips are available -- March 24 is the last date for early price registration.

Merit Badge sign ups are now available. Get your sign ups turned in, some merit badges fill. You must have a permission slip for summer camp turned in before we will sign you up for merit badges.

NYLT - National Youth Leadership Training
Course: June 28 - July 3, 2020

Learn about leadership and put those skills to practice during a week of fun and fellowship. Have you heard the adults talking about Wood Badge? This is the course for the scouts! There’s still space available, course is not full, if you missed the Ice Cream Social.

Also... NYLT scouts receive a discount for attending Summer Camp with the Troop!

The troop provides $100 scholarship towards the cost of NYLT for those scouts that apply. More information is available on the Troop Website.

Got Advancement?

Looking to have requirements signed off? Remember, it’s up to you to seek out a scout First Class or Above to test and sign off on your requirements. Once they’ve dated and initialed your advancement sheet, drop it in the box and it will get recorded in Scoutbook. Not in the box or without the initials of whoever signed it off? It doesn’t get recorded.

What about Merit Badges? Once you decide you want to work on a badge, fill out a Blue Card and take it to Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen to sign off. They’ll also help you find merit badge counselors. Having issues contacting a counselor? Let Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen know so he can help find another counselor.
