In-Person Troop Meetings

We’re all looking forward to getting back together and having in-person troop meetings. Our intention is to start meeting in-person as troops again but to try to do so responsibly. Both units will be following simple guidelines addressed in Mrs. Danner’s May 31st email.

For June (at least and possibly through summer): Troop 4B will continue to meet at ETC. Troop 4G will be meeting in Oconomowoc at Mrs. Tahtinen’s house.

Things to remember:

  1. Monitor your personal and family health. Before every meeting: that your scout or family hasn’t had a fever in the last 2 weeks, hasn’t been sick in the last 2 weeks, and currently have no fever.
  2. Temperatures will be scanned before entering meeting space.
  3. Continue good hand washing / sanitizing practices - with additional washing / sanitizing as activities require.
  4. Wear a cloth mask or face covering: whenever inside a building or when within 6 feet of another person.
  5. Disinfect surfaces after each meeting.

The troop leadership will continue to monitor the situation, feedback from parents, and recommendations of health officials.

Summer Camp 2020
June 21-27, 2020

Potawatomi Area Council IS HOLDING CAMP! The troop is going to participate as we planned. You may or may not have heard that there are some changes to how camp will function this year. The Council worked closely with the Fond du Lac County Health Department to determine how they can minimize risk during camp.

More information about these changes will be provided as we get closer to camp.

BAG DROP & TRAILER PACK: June 20, 2020

The troop will pack the trailer the day before (Saturday, June 20) Summer Camp. Come with your bag packed for the week. Find out what items you’re missing and take home ones that you can’t (or shouldn’t) have.

Remember: Water bottles, face masks, field uniform, swim trunks, and towel should be packed in a day pack -- not in the stuff you put in the trailer. We can’t guarantee that things will be unpacked and set up before you need those items Sunday.

SUMMER CAMP DRIVERS: June 21, 2020 & June 27, 2020

We will need parents to help drive to camp -- between the two units we have over 30 scouts attending. This year will be a little different, as we will be assigned an arrival time by camp so the exact time we are leaving on Sunday is up-in-the-air.

Please sign up on the sign-up genius -- https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B094BA9AB23A2FF2-20202. If you can drive both weekends, please make sure you’re listed on both days. Enter the number of SCOUTS you can take (not including yourself as the driver). If you have arranged with Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen to take your scout separately, please also sign up on the sign-up genius.

Summer Camp Medical Forms

With COVID-19, BSA is allowing Part C (the doctor signed) medical forms to be dated after 2/1/19 since appointments might have been cancelled due to safer at home restrictions. ALSO even though Part C is ok to be signed after 2/1/19, Part A/B (the part signed by the parent) must still be within the usual 12 months. You might therefore need to turn in an updated Part A/B even if you don't need a Part C.

As always, we look for the parent signature, medication authorization signature, immunization dates, and insurance cards. A Sample ABC was attached to the Summer Camp Paperwork email to show where we look for this information.

It would be most helpful if any missing health form information can be turned in by the June 9 troop meeting so we can sent it to camp ahead of our week. You can scan & email or drop them off at ETC during regular business hours.

Medical Form Update

At the beginning of the year, National came out with an updated Class A/B/C medical forms. The new forms are available linked on the troop website. Medical forms of the old format (dated prior to 1/1/20) will still be valid until their expiration date (the end of the month 1 year after the date they were signed) but any new forms need to be on the updated form.

As you are getting your physicals (for well-checks or sports), please download the new forms to take with you to be signed.

NYLT - National Youth Leadership Training
Course: June 28 - July 3, 2020

Learn about leadership and put those skills to practice during a week of fun and fellowship. Have you heard the adults talking about Wood Badge? This is the course for the scouts! There’s still space available, course is not full, if you missed the Ice Cream Social.

Also... NYLT scouts receive a discount for attending Summer Camp with the Troop!

The troop provides $100 scholarship towards the cost of NYLT for those scouts that apply. More information is available on the Troop Website.

Troop Elections

OA elections were held virtually during May. Call-outs will happen during summer camp for those that were elected.

4G held their Spring elections in May for a short term. Both 4B & 4G will have their next troop elections at the end of September with terms starting October 1.

Got Advancement?

Looking to have requirements signed off? Remember, it’s up to you to seek out a scout First Class or Above to test and sign off on your requirements. Once they’ve dated and initialed your advancement sheet, drop it in the box and it will get recorded in Scoutbook. Not in the box or without the initials of whoever signed it off? It doesn’t get recorded.

What about Merit Badges? Once you decide you want to work on a badge, fill out a Blue Card and take it to Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen to sign off. They’ll also help you find merit badge counselors. Having issues contacting a counselor? Let Mr. Landquist or Mrs. Tahtinen know so he can help find another counselor.

June’s Quiz

  1. When did Amelia Earhart set off on her famous and ill-fated flight around the world?
  2. When was the United Nations formed?
  3. In the U.S. it borders Florida; in Europe, it borders Russia and Turkey. What is it?

March’s Answers: 1) Jeannette Rankin. She represented Montana from 1917 to 1919 and again from 1941 to 1943. 2) Horatio Magellan Crunch. 3) Chimpanzees.
