We’re looking at adding a 3rd Troop Meeting every
month. Currently there are two meetings, the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays
a month. We’re looking at adding a third on the 3rd Tuesday.
This will allow more time to do Scout stuff other than work on
outings and provide more free time.
We will be discussing this at the August 16th meeting. |

Brian,
Alex, Zach, Collin, Ben and Sam spent some of their summer at Camp
Long Lake in Project First Class, where they worked on many of the
skills needed for Tenderfoot, 2nd Class and 1st Class ranks.
Congrats to those who went to summer camp and accomplished over 1/2
the requirements towards their tenderfoot, second, and first class
ranks. Troop 4 headquartered in the Trailview campsite, just across
the ravine from the Long Lake Dining Hall, a convenient place to be
when on ice duty. This was the first time the boys set up the
troop's dining fly, which sheltered them from the July sun and rain
on Tuesday. This was also the first time the boys built a gate for
their campsite from pioneer poles lashed together. To see pictures
from camp, go to

Troop
4 scouts worked on first aid, outdoor skills, flag etiquette, and
cooking. On Wednesday, they showed off their skills by cooking in
camp. Breakfast of bacon and scrambled eggs, hot dogs over a fire,
or chili from a Dutch oven all taste better outdoors than in the
dining hall. Their Dutch oven dessert didn't win a prize, but I
heard that the cinnamon rolls disappeared in seconds. The boys also
earned their Toten Chit, Fireman Chit and Chemical Fuels Chit, which
will certainly help out in future camp outs. They decided to go
back next year on the same week, just after the 4th of July, and
stay in the same campsite. We can hardly wait |
In
the spirit of Packer Family Night, Troop 4 made this campout a
family affair and invited not only their parents but also our
scouting family, the Webelos II den from Pack 163. The weekend was
full of contrasts. After setting up camp in a rugged woodsy
setting, we were off to the city for a football extravaganza.
Before the main event, a stadium full of Packer fans was treated to
the Oneida dancers and their Snake Dance. We watched our Packers
scrimmage against the Buffalo Bills in Lambeau Stadium and were
treated to a display of synchronized fireworks afterwards before
returning to Camp Brown. Saturday morning the boys worked hard on
their rank advancement. The all tested on the whipping and fusing
skills they had learned earlier, something every scout needs to
know. Then they recorded athletic skills as they prepare to improve
in these activities. After working hard and fixing a quick lunch,
we all went to Peshtigo to the historic Fire Museum, followed by a
treat at Dairy Queen.
Camp Brown is very primitive, with only a block outhouse and
water pumped by hand. There are no overhead nights to spoil the
night sky. After dinner cooked by the boys and songs and stories
around the campfire, we went on a dark walk, using no flashlights,
to an open spot where we could watch the sky. We were rewarded by
views of the Milky Way, satellites and a couple of shooting stars,
and one of the most spectacular meteor sightings any of us had ever
seen. Sunday we tried a new food, Eggs in a Bag, and topped it off
with the Dutch oven cinnamon rolls again. |
