Drop Offs

Anything that is due to the Troop can be dropped off at ETC to Liz or Dean's attention weekdays 8 am - 4:30 pm.

Committee Meeting

The Next Committee Meeting is October 7th at 12:30 pm at ETC.

Next Roundtable: October 3rd at 7 pm at Butler Middle School.

2007 Wreath Sale

The last few years, we've had complaints that our wreath sale runs too late and the soccer clubs and other organizations have already gotten the sales. In response, this year's wreath sale will start SEPTEMBER 1st. It will continue throughout September and into October and end at the same time as the Popcorn Sale: October 22nd.

Final Order Forms will be DUE NO LATER THAN THE OCTOBER 23rd Troop Meeting.

This doesn't mean you can slack off, though! Sell early! Sell often!

Order Forms are now available! Pick them up at the Troop Meetings or from Liz at ETC during the day.

Fall Popcorn Sale

The Council's Fall Popcorn Sale starts October 5th. Order forms will be available at the September 25th Troop Meeting. Remember, as this is a Council-wide sale, you cannot start selling before October 5th. The sale ends October 22nd. Order forms are due back NO LATER THAN THE OCTOBER 23rd Troop Meeting. We have to get our order into the Council immediately after that, so we can't accept late order.

Once again, we're selling Pecatonica River Popcorn. For those who had concerns about Transfat last year: the Butter Light popcorn is now Transfat-free. Those worried about the butter flavoring -- Pecatonica doesn't use that type of flavoring.

Boys will get 40% of the profit from this sale -- and it all goes into their Scout Account.

Why are we selling popcorn? As a Council-sponsored sale, the Council gets part of the profits. The Council uses this money to help run the Boy Scout Program in Waukesha County!

Creep-O-Ree

Calling all Critics, Directors, Assistance, Producers, Photographers, Scene Changes, Grips...

This year's theme --- “SATURDAY NIGHT at the MOVIES”

Creep-O-Ree is November 2-4 at Camp Long Lake. Permission slips are available. We'd like to hear back by October 9th at the latest -- there are special price incentives for turning your permission slip in early!

When: November 2-4, 2007
Arrive at ETC by 4:30 Friday -- Leave ETC at 5pm -- Return to ETC around 1 pm Sunday

Cost: $30 (by Sep 25th) -- $35 (by Oct 9th) -- $40 (after Oct 9th)

Bring a bag lunch for Friday's dinner.

All participants need to have a Class I medical form on file with the troop.

Webelos Jamboree

Webelos Jamboree is September 14-16. Troop 4 has signed up to run the hatchet toss and we'll have a rope bridge for the Webelos to walk across while they're waiting.

When: September 14-16
Arrive at ETC at 4:30 pm -- Leave ETC at 5 pm -- Return to ETC about 11 am on Sunday

Cost: $15

Remember to bring a bag lunch for Friday's dinner.

Coed "Survivor" Camporee

A joint campout between the Potawatomi Area Boy Scouts and the Great Blue Heron Girl Scouts.

Tribes will be formed mixing the boys and girls together. Tribes stay together during all competition events, though meals will be at the Troop campsite.

What are some of the challenges the tribes compete in? Archery, Fire building, Obstacle course, Tug-of-War, Compass reading, First aid, Puzzle solving, Mask design, Cooking, Knots, Shelter building, Log sawing, Target toss and more!

When: October 12-14, 2007
Meet at ETC at 4:30 pm - Leave ETC at 5 pm Friday - Return to ETC about 12:30 pm Sunday

Where: Harnischfeger Park north of Oconomowoc.

Cost: $25 (before Sep 25) -- $30 (after Sep 25)

Bring a bag lunch for Friday’s dinner. Like always, the troop must have a Class I medical form on file.

Planning Conference Lock-In

We’ve run out of activities (after for Creep-O-Ree) and we need to plan the next year’s fun!

Do you want to go biking again? Try another canoe trip? See a cave? Go back to northern Wisconsin and a primitive camp site?

So start thinking about what type of campouts you want to go on in the next year? We’ll be planning for now until November 2008! Think of fall, winter, spring and summer activities.

The Planning Conference will be October 25th starting at 5pm. It will last until approximately 9 am October 26th.

Cost: $2

St. John Neumann Brunch

We’ll once again be offering the boys a service opportunity to work at the “5th Sunday” brunch at St. John Neumann on September 30th. Sign-up at a troop meeting this month.

And as long as we’re there working...

Court of Honor

It’s time once again to recognize all the hard work the boys have been doing! Join us for a Court of Honor on September 30th at 12:30 pm at St. John Neumann.

Scouts can work at the Brunch and earn service hours. Parents, come eat (tickets available at door) and enjoy the brunch with the Court of Honor afterwards. Sign-up at a troop meeting this month.

Troop Elections

At the end of August, the Scouts voted on who would be their leaders for the next six months. The Committee looked at the votes and ratified the elections at their September meeting.

Congratulations to everyone!

Write something for the Newsletter!

Articles are always welcome. Write about an outing. Write about a service project. Write a how-to about something you love. Everything and anything (within reason and appropriateness). Articles should be about 150-200 words. Send an email or neatly write something up and drop it in the box (if I can't read your handwriting, I can't put it in the newsletter).

September's Quiz
  1. Which U.S. president wrote a book about fishing?
  2. What is the fastest speed attained by a piloted aircraft?
  3. What was the first soda sold in the U.S.?

August's Answers: 1) Tennessee. 2) 9 feet long (the minute hand is 14 feet). 3) Michael Jordan.

Lost but not Found?

August Canoe Outing

We have a large number of items in the Lost and Found. PLEASE look through the box to see if any of it is yours. Unclaimed items by the start of Summer Camp will be donated to local charities or thrown out. Because of the amount of rain that we received in late August, we had to cancel the August Canoe Outing. The river was too high and running too fast for the outing to be safe. We don't know if it will get rescheduled for this fall (we're running out of free weekends before it gets too cold) or if the boys will opt to schedule it for sometime next year at the Planning Conference.

For the Parents & Leaders...

Round table is an excellent way to find out what Scouting is about and to learn how you can help guide the boys. Round table is the 1st Wednesday of every month at 7 pm at Butler Middle School.

Dec - Leatherworking (bring your hiking stick if you have one)
