Pine Tree (National Youth Leadership Training)

Want to know what Pine Tree is? Think you might be interested? Pine Tree is the National Youth Leadership Training and it teaches Scouts how to be leaders. It is a week-long course offered at Camp Long Lake June 15th to 20th.

There will be a Free Ice Cream Social where you can find out more information about Pine Tree on March 16 from 1:30pm to 3 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church (20275 Davidson Road off Barker Road) in Brookfield.

Troop Elections

Spring Troop Leadership elections will be held at the end of February. Think about what positions you want and who will make good leaders. Drop nominations in the box at the Feb 12 or 19 Troop Meeting.

OA Elections will also be held at the end of February / beginning of March.

Recharter

It's almost time for Rechartering. The Troop recharters in April. Dues for April 2008 through March 2009 will be collected at this time.

This year, we would like EVERYONE to fill out a Class 1 medical form (front and the top of the back please). As a heads-up, many of our older scouts also need to renew their Class 2 medical forms... Now is a good time.

Scouting for Food

We're partnering with Pack 163 again this year. The Troop will distribute the bags on March 29th. The Pack will be picking them up on April 5th. Sign up at a Troop Meeting.

New Rank Requirements - Effective January 1, 2008

The National Youth Protection Committee recommended additions to the BSA rank requirements that were approved and became effective January 1, 2008. These changes will help us advance the importance of Youth Protection training beyond the initial Boy Scout joining requirements, and keep youth informed and actively engaged in understanding the key elements of personal safety and protection.

Tenderfoot Rank
Revised Requirement 9:
Explain the importance of the buddy system as it relates to your personal safety on outings and in your neighborhood. Describe what a bully is and how you should respond to one.

Second Class Rank
New Requirement 8B:
Explain the three R's of personal safety and protection.

First Class Rank
New Requirement 12:
Describe the three things you should avoid doing related to use of the Internet. Describe a cyberbully and how you should respond to one.

These changes will be represented in the 2008 Boy Scout Requirements book and the revised printing of the 11th edition of the Boy Scout Handbook.
