Planning Lock-In
October 28-29, 2010

Start thinking of ideas for next year! The planning lock-in is just around the corner! Have a favorite vacation spot? Know of some good hiking trails? Have a suggestion for summer camp? There will be a box out at the troop meetings for you to drop your suggestions.

Scout and adult ideas are always welcome!

New Youth Protection Guidelines

Effective June 1, 2010, BSA made some changes to their Youth Protection Policies. To find out more about the Youth Protection policies of the Boy Scouts of America and how to help Scouting keep your family safe, see the Parent's Guide in any of the Cub Scouting or Boy Scouting handbooks, or go to http://www.scouting.org/Training/YouthProtectino.aspx.

  1. Youth Protection is REQUIRED for all registered volunteers.
  2. New leaders/volunteers are required to take Youth Protection Training and turn in a copy of the printed certificate with their registration.
  3. Youth Protection Training must be RETAKEN every two years.

What does this mean for you?

If you are a new leader to the troop, you must complete the Youth Protection Training (online) before you can be registered. A copy of the printed certificate must be turned in with your application.

Currently registered leaders: You must have taken Youth Protection Training (online) within two years of rechartering. You can look at myscouting.org (the “official” record for the BSA) to see if you've taken it recently. You need to retake the training, not just take the quiz. Once you've taken the training, give a copy of the printed certificate to Liz so it can be recorded in the troop's records. If your Youth Protection Training is out of date, you will not be allowed to recharter.

July's Quiz

  1. When it comes to medical shorthand, what do the abbreviations Dx, Hx, Sx, and Tx represent?
  2. What legendary 1960 Olympic gold medallist had the honor of marking the start of the 1996 Summer Games in Altanta, Georgia, by lighting the cauldron with the Olympic torch?
  3. How many of the 55 delegates to the Consitutional Convention were lawyers?

June's Answers: 1) The entire team was called upon to move tons of uranium stored in Manhattan warehouses. 2) Jade -- a single block of jade. 3) Smash Mouth.
